Bianca Mueller is a leading privacy and legal expert known for her ability to translate complex data privacy laws into practical and actionable strategies.
Bianca’s qualifications as a lawyer in Australia, New Zealand, and Germany, combined with her deep expertise in technology law and human rights, uniquely position her to guide companies through the challenges of data protection laws.
She has successfully transformed the privacy culture of numerous organisations by providing engaging, practical training. Her privacy courses don’t just teach theory—they empower teams to implement privacy frameworks that strengthen organisational resilience and ensure compliance with the evolving legal landscape.
Bianca provided privacy training to financial institutions and delivered training to New Zealand lawyers on GDPR and professional ethical standards showcasing her ability to make complex regulatory requirements accessible and actionable. Bianca has also developed other training courses on digital law for the New Zealand Law Society.
Bianca led privacy compliance initiatives across insurance and finance sectors. For instance, at the Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA), she established the privacy function for CBA’s Retail Bank, Advice & Insurance, and Bankwest whilst successfully delivering a major privacy remediation program to protect the data of 10 million retail customers. Her leadership was crucial in cultivating a privacy-aware culture, driving long lasting organisational change.
Previously, Bianca served as legal counsel for prominent international brands including Mons Royale, Sennheiser, and Bosch. She provided expert guidance on intellectual property licensing, data sharing, GDPR and other international data protection laws. Her deep expertise in privacy law and risk management has been instrumental in navigating complex data challenges, particularly during divestments, system integrations, and the implementation of new technologies.
She was also the trusted legal advisor to the German embassy in Wellington, and contributed to fostering cultural and commercial relations between Germany and New Zealand during visits from German delegations to New Zealand.
She co-authored the Waitangi Tribunal’s War 262 report Ko Aotearoa Tēnei (‘This is Aotearoa’ or ‘This is New Zealand’), the Tribunal’s first whole-of-government report that addresses claims under the Treaty of Waitangi in relation to the exploitation of Māori traditional and medicinal knowledge, and the protection of customary rights under New Zealand law.
Bianca has co-authored books and legal journal articles on topics including international trade, intellectual property, and data protection laws. Her insights are especially relevant as Australian privacy reforms come into effect, and she continues to shape the conversation around data protection and privacy.
Bianca’s has taught criminal law at the German university of Bielefeld and is currently a guest lecturer at Canterbury University for intellectual property law.
